Living the Dream
We departed theLaHave River Yacht Saturday morning at 8:40am under beautiful sunny skies and no wind. So much for sailing away.... Thank you to everyone who stopped by to see us off. I was doing great until my mother made me cry, but I think mother's have that right, so I'm okay with it.

Ups and Downs - Day 1
Well of course the highlight was finally leaving after 5 years of dreaming about it. A beautiful day and lots of friends made it even more special. We motored out to Mosher's Island and put up the mainsail and jib. Reefing lines jammed in boom, so we had to undo them in order to get the mainsail up. Seas became very sloppy by noon and stayed that way throughout day. Too rough to go below deck so no lunch. We planned to go to Carter's Beach but by 4:00pm we were all exhausted and pulled into Brooklyn instead. Had great showers and enjoyed a quiet relaxing evening.
Ups and Downs - Day 2
Left Brooklyn under overcast skies and very light wind. Reefing lines jammed again. Fixed that and then double wrapped main halyard on winch. I had read that to undo it, needed to put the line on another winch, but in doing that we double wrapped the line again. We were certainly giving Laurel and Hardy a run for the money!! Luckily Richard suggested using another line and tying a rolling hitch on the line behind the second winch and bring it back to a third winch. That did the trick and we repeated on the first winch. Have I got anyone confused yet? :)
Finally got on our way and motor sailed to Carter's Beach, arriving in the pouring ran. Anchor set nicely and we took the tender into the beach for a short walk ( after it stopped raining)
Ups and Downs - Day 3
Forecast was for rain and high winds so we decided to stay put for the day. We picked up Heather and Richard in our dingy and took a nice walk on the beach. No one was brave enough to go swimming, but at least we got our feet wet. When we got back to the dingy, the bow had swung around and the boat was bobbing in the waves. That was too close! We enjoyed a BBQ on Salvation and then Richard came to our boat to take a look at our reefing line problem. With some forceful pulling of lines we managed to pull out some more bird's nest from the boom. We'ed taken a nest out prior to launching, but guess we didn't get it all.
